Clean up at Snake Hill Cemetery – 10:00 am on Sunday, October 29th (right in the city of Newburgh). Maintaining Jewish cemeteries is a sacred task and a promise that we made to those that came before us. Help is needed to do a fall clean-up of the grounds. All equipment will be provided - we just need you! Please wear appropriate work clothes and bring gloves. We will all meet at the entrance (at the Dead End of Temple Avenue there is a small parking lot for us to meet) and walk together to the cemetery grounds. Many hands will make for light work. Please join us. Please RSVP by Friday, October 27th.
Movies & Munchies – 7:00pm on Saturday, November 11 at the temple. The Sisterhood is sponsoring a viewing and discussion of "The Garden of the Finzi-Contini". Cost is $5 per person for wine and munchies. All are welcome. Please RSVP by November 3. The Garden of the Finzi-Continis (Italian: Il giardino dei Finzi Contini) is a 1970 historical drama film directed by Italian Jewish author Giorgio Bassani's 1962 semi-autobiographical novel of the same name, about the lives of an upper-class Jewish family in Ferrara during the Fascist era.
Tenement Museum & Lower East Side Excursion – 9:00am on Sunday December 10 for bus departure, return at 5:30pm. Experience Jewish immigrant life at the turn of the last century followed by lunch at Russ & Daughters. At 2:30pm visit the historic Eldridge Street Synagogue. $25 per person. Register by December 4. Sponsored by a micro-grant from the Jewish Federation of Greater Orange County. All are invited to attend.
Tikkun Olam – Christmas Day Dinner- For the 3rd year in a row, TBJ is partnering with King of Kings Lutheran Church to feed a festive holiday dinner to the less fortunate in Newburgh and surrounding areas. Our goal is to prepare 200 meals. Volunteers are needed to help cook on Saturday, December 2 at 9am at King of Kings. Volunteers are needed to distribute food on Monday, December 25 first shift – 10am – 2pm and second shift 2pm – 6pm. Please contact Stacey Yerger at [email protected] if you can volunteer for any of the shifts or if you can prepare any food.
TBJ Gala Planning Session - We are planning a wonderful series of gala events for this spring - to celebrate and rejoice as TBJ and raise much needed funds. If you'd like to volunteer and help make these events come to life, we are having a planning session at Alexis Diner on Thursday, November 9th, at noon. All ideas, thoughts, skills and creativity are welcome. Help us make this the best TBJ Gala yet!
Gift of Life Bone Marrow Swabbing Drive – Stem cell donors needed for the Gift of Life Marrow Registry. So far we have gotten 56 matches! Donors swab the inside of their cheeks and complete a registration form, must be 18 to 35 years old and in good health. Volunteers are also needed for a couple of hours to help find someone’s match. Jewish Civil Rights Tour – March 31 – April 2, 2024 - Join Rabbi Kohn and professional Jewish Civil Rights Tour Educators to Georgia and Alabama. Trip includes two night’s accommodations, six meals, transportation, admission & programming costs. Deposit of $400 is due by November 15.
