Building a Better Tomorrow — a year of Charitable Giving. Joining together to provide needed items for our shared community. For October, please donate non-perishable foods. Drop off locations are TBJ or King of Kings Lutheran Church. All items collected will be donated to the Local Food Banks.
Faith Club Potluck Dinner, Movie & Discussion - 6:00pm on Saturday, November 8 at the temple. Viewing of the movie "Bonhoeffer - Pastor, Spy, Assassin (2024). Bring a meal large enough to feed 10 people. No Mixing of Meat & Dairy products in the same dish. No pork or shellfish of any kind. Drinks will be provided. Dessert & Discussion led by Pastor MaryLou Baumgartner & Rabbi Kohn.
Synagogue Leadership Series – 12:00 – 1:30pm every other Sunday starting on November 9 – May 21. This series looks at the gamut of synagogue leadership, but it is designed for anyone: the leader, the Jew in the Pew, and the non-Jewish person. Understand the Jewish world from how it works!
The Sacred Struggle: Jewish Responses to Trauma – Dealing with Tough Stuff – 7:00 – 8:30pm on Tuesday, November 11 & 18. How does Jewish tradition promote resilience, emotional honesty, feeling pain and loss rather than anger and dismay, and how do we engage one another in the moments which life brings us. Participants are encouraged to get a copy of the book and bring it to both sessions.
Sisterhood Lunch & Learn – 12:00pm on Thursday, November 13 at Capri Restaurant in New Windsor. The topic is "Jewish Ethics and War".
Sisterhood Book Club – 1:00pm on Thursday, November 20. Discussion of the book The House of Tyneford by Natahsa Solomons. It's the spring of 1938 and no longer safe to be a Jew in Vienna. Nineteen-year-old Elise Landau is forced to leave her glittering life of parties and champagne to become a parlor maid in England. Stained Glass Series: Newburgh's Interfaith Clergy at TBJ – 7:30pm on Friday, November 21, featuring the Reverend Dr. Dollyann Newkirk-Briggs of Baptist Temple Church in Newburgh, the first female leader of the historic congregation. She holds degrees from Dutchess Community College, a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Theology from the Newburgh Bible Institute. Rev. Dr. Briggs is also retired from the State of NY Department of Environmental Conservation, NYS Division of Parole, and NYS Department of Correctional Services, working in the Medical Records X-Ray Department.
Fun, Conversational Hebrew – 7:00 – 8:30pm on Tuesday from December 2 through February 3. In this Ulpan – shared conversational Hebrew Learning – we will speak with one another in easy Hebrew, develop some basic vocabulary, learn some grammatical structures, and have fun! Materials will be provided. No prior skill needed.

Gift of Life Bone Marrow Swabbing Drive – Stem cell donors needed for the Gift of Life Marrow Registry. So far we have 157 Matches! Donors swab the inside of their cheeks and complete a registration form, and must be in good health. Volunteers are also needed for a couple of hours to help find someone's match. Kristallnacht Commemoration – 1:30pm on Sunday, November 9 at Kol Yisrael, 290 North Street, Newburgh. Janet Singer Applefield will present "Becoming Janet: Finding Myself in the Holocaust". She will speak about her emotional journey to Nazi occupied Poland, depicting the lonely and tortured years of little Gustawa hiding in plain sight. Suggested donation is $18. Rabbi Angela Buchdahl – 1:00pm on Tuesday, November 18 via Zoom only. She will discuss her book "Heart of a Stranger". Angela is the first Asian-American to be ordained as a rabbi, born in Korea and grew up in Tacoma, Washington. She felt a connection to God and the first stirrings to become a rabbi at age sixteen.
