Holidays

In ancient days, due to possible confusion of the date, an extra day of the festival holidays was added for Jews outside of the Land of Israel. Therefore, even though the Torah sets Pesach at seven days, Jews in the Diaspora have observed it for eight days. The same one day extension took place for Sukkot and Shavuot. In the modern State of Israel, these holidays are celebrated with the amount of days originally proscribed. Today, because modern mathematics and astronomy has made us perfectly aware of the exact time a particular date falls on the calendar, we do not accept the requirement for the extra day. The dates below reflect our decision to follow the Israeli calendar.
